I felt this movie was just an average drama (and black comedy of sorts) about American surburban living. Two parallel stories (one about an affair between a bored housewife and an immature househusband jock, and the other about a sexually-perverted 40-something guy) that felt unrelated, though you could feel that their problems were of the same nature.
The acting was good. This was an acting vehicle for Kate Winslet who was very good since she had to convince us that she is a lonely homely nerdy housewife struggling for freedom. It was good to see Patrick Wilson in another role, since I have not seen him in anything else but "Phantom of the Opera." Jennifer Connelly was beautiful but her role was very short. That scene at the dinner table though was her time to shine.
The role of the pervert played by Jackie Earle Haley was a novel and interesting one. It was very creepily interpreted, yet you can feel his dilemmas. The role of his mother is very touchingly portrayed, as well.
The main problem with me was the ending. Too many contrived coincidences to be believable. Too many unresolved questions to be satisfying.

Why did Ronnie go to the same park as Sarah? Why did Brad bring with him his note to Kathy? Why was Larry so obsessed with Ronnie? What was the significance of Lucy getting lost? Why did the skateboard kids suddenly notice Brad only that particular night?
